Allowing data to breathe: the impermanence of governance
There is a balance to be found in data governance.
Information is designed, from taxonomy and governance decisions all the way through to the most abstract, far-flung, nebulous information structures. If we design ad hoc, we get...broken, barely-functional, frustrating, time-consuming, othering, dehumanizing, extractive systems. If we design with context, humanism, and information literacy, we get mapped, navigable, and deeply useful systems.
